Oops
I could have just fixed the previous post and not mentioned this, but why blow another chance to write a hundred words or so? Besides, I have a point to make.
I spelled the novelist's name wrong. It's not Carl "Hiassen", it's Hiaasen. Two a's, one s. Oops.
This ties in with my previous post about nitpicking. I hate spelling errors. They absolutely torture me. Yet I'm not immune, and it's usually names I screw up.
Recently I replied to an e-mail from a lady named Shannon. "Dear Sharon," I wrote, and she was not amused. Can't blame her.
I experience the misspelled or mispronounced name thing often. One would, with a last name like Kock. It's pronounced "cook", or as my husband points out, can also be "coke". I prefer the latter, as it makes more sense phonetically, but the family tradition is the former. The kids are used to it and I married into it, so who am I to say?
